About the play

After an unknown man mysteriously hangs himself by a highway in rural Oklahoma, two small-town paramedics beat the first responders to the scene. Since he’s already dead (and the cops got a flat) all they can do is wait. Which is fine until they realize every school bus in the county is about to drive right by. To make matters worse, a local reporter (the senior paramedic’s ex-wife) arrives to film the whole fiasco with her well-meaning camera guy. At least, that’s what she thinks is going to happen.... Responders is a genre-bending dark comedy about trying to do the right thing. What begins with regular people wrestling human nature at its worst ends with a glimpse of humanity at its stumbling best, supplanting the worn-out trope of heroes with the more vital need for heroic moments along the way.
