THE SYSTEM

BETTY BRUTUS (Ms. Maxwell) has been in three other productions for Latinx Theatre Project: Scratch That, Blanket Statements, and Crossroads. Before those productions, Betty appeared as Mama Morton in Chicago at the Arkansas Public Theatre. She also appeared as the lead player in Pippin and as Marie Manning in the touring company in Auditions, both at the University of Arkansas. She has also toured through the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock in Arkansas Experience, Diamonds and Dastardly Deed, and Opening Night. Betty has a BA in Drama and a MAT in Education from the University of Arkansas. She is a native of Fort Smith AR and now lives in Fayetteville AR.

DAMIAN DENA (Hacker Rojo) is Performance Coordinator and long time member of LXTP, who has been with them since the beginning. As an ensemble member he has been in their past productions of Follow Me @TioSam, Scratch That, Blanket Statements, and The Crossroads. Other professional credits include Trike Theatre’s Go Dog Go, and TheatreSquared’s workshop production of Just Like Us. Damian is a theatre artist from El Paso, Texas with a BFA in theatre, an MFA in drama from the University of Arkansas, and is currently a theatre teacher at Northwest Arkansas Community College. He’s goal in life is to make art that matters, help move the world in a positive direction with his craft, and to help elevate future artist to their full potential.

JASPER LOGAN (DJ Magic) is a hip-hop artist from Chicago,IL. Jasper has been creating music and performing since the age of 12. He has released 1 EP entitled Underneath There Are Diamonds (available everywhere, iTunes, Spotify etc) 2 Mixtapes entitled The Prelude (available on noisetrade) and Success is available on iTunes, Spotify, amazon, etc. Jasper Logan latest release, 94 South to Dolton Avenue is available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, etc. Jasper Logan is the 2016 Alchemy Songwriting competition 1st place winner for his song entitled Black Excellence (which is featured on his latest release Success). Jasper also has a documentary you can find on youtube that goes along with the cd Success.

THE PLAYERS

GABRIELA ARROYO (Sol) is a theatre major currently studying at Northwest Arkansas Community College. She will be transferring to the University of Arkansas to finish her Bachelor’s Degree. She has returned for her second season with LXTP and is now the Community Engagement Assistant. Last season she played Laura in The Crossroads and plays Sol in the newest LXTP production Heroes and Monsters. She loves using theatre and film to show love to her community and hopes to help grow the arts for Northwest Arkansas, especially for People of Color.

MARTIN GARAY (El Rey de Rima) Martin Garay is a founding member, contributor, and Design Coordinator for the Latinx Theatre Project; having participated in the productions of Follow Me @ Tio Sam, Scratch That, Blanket Statements, Crossroads, and Heroes and Monsters. Martin is currently obtaining a degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences at Northwest Arkansas Community College. He hopes to become an asset to his hometown of Springdale through his work with LXTP and with other community organizations throughout the city.

YESENIA DE LOERA (La Loba) returns for her third season with the LatinX Theatre Project. Her latest appearance at TheatreSquared was as Radio Angel in the devised production of The Crossroads. She played a role in NWACC's production of Lisa Loomer's Living Out. Yesenia is currently working on LatineX Theatre Project’s Heroes and Monsters. She recently Graduated from NWACC with an accounting degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences.

DANIELA MARTINEZ (Luna) is stepping into what will be her second season with the LatinX Theater Project. This past season she made her first debut as an actress in the production of The Crossroads. Her love of theater and writing has followed her to the University of Central Arkansas where she will be majoring in English and minoring in Teaching and Learning. She believes theater has a way of leaving the audience with something to think about. Her love for writing continues and grows as she collaborates with an ensemble full of talents and passions helping her improve and continue to dream like a true artist.

ALEX NILSSON (Conquistador) has been with the LatinX Theatre Program since February 2018, and has featured as an actor and writer in their productions of Scratch That, Blanket Statements, and The Crossroads. In addition to acting and writing with the project, he has participated as a teaching artist in their high school workshops. He currently attends the University of Arkansas, where he most recently performed in Tribes. Previously, he has studied acting at Northwest Arkansas Community College and the University of Central Missouri, where he was also a member of the theatre department’s official improv comedy troupe. Other regional credits include Sonnets for an Old Century, Give Me Shelter, Tambien and Pride @ Prejudice at Northwest Arkansas Community College, and Sense and Sensibility at the Arts Center of the Ozarks.

MICHAEL DEL RIO (Demon) is an ensemble member and The Production Assistant Coordinator for LXTP. A passionate actor some my call him but has a way of being one with the character. Music is another area that hits Michael’s sweet spot. A passion singer and rapper, Michael is an “All-Around” All-star. As much as he loves acting and music Michael has a love for his city of Springdale and plans to build the community up and to spread a love through the whole city. He is also one of the creators of Heroes and Monsters.

JUSTINE RYAN (Trixie the Trickster) is entering her second year as an ensemble member and digital outreach assistant with LatinX Theatre Project. She is a committed, passionate professional artist working in a variety of positions in entertainment. In 2018 at the Kansas City Fringe Festival, she premiered her one-woman show, Lessons From My Suitcase. She has also appeared in Wal-Mart Corporate Training Videos, acted as a stand-in for HBO’s True Detective and nationally debuted on an episode of For My Man in December 2018 on TVOne. Justine is also the creator behind her the musical, cooking show on YouTube, In The Key of Yumm. She’s performed in minor roles around Missouri/Arkansas Ozark Area including; Springfield, MO, where she was a back-up singer for a Neo-Soul Band “Khemistry feat. Sade Shine”, and in Eureka Spring where she had her directing debut with the Five and Dime Drama Collective. Justine holds a degree in Theatre (B.F.A.) and Interdisciplinary Studies (with a concentration in Global Studies and Conflict Resolution) both from Bennett College.

GABRIELA TORRES (Santa Mortal) is in her third season with the LatinX Theatre Project. She works alongside the company as a writer, performer, and marketing coordinator. Being a part of LXTP she’s been able to perform all over NWA and be a part of High School Workshops across the region. She was in the latest production of “Crossroads” as Jessica. Gabriela has worked at The Station as their Assistant Director. There she is able to continue her work with the community. Gabriela grew up in Springdale and graduated from Springdale High School. She's always interested in exploring new possibilities and making the best out of every situation.

M SATIVA VELA (Skull Face) is a founding ensemble member of the LatinX Theatre Project (LXTP) - supported by the Walton Family Foundation since 2017 - and now serves as the Associate Artistic Director working with LXTP on their fifth original play, Heroes and Monsters. They are also currently the Programming Coordinator for the Bentonville Film Festival, but has formally served as an intern since 2018. Vela is working towards an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Northwest Arkansas Community College, and recently represented Springdale during a community fellowship with the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art’s Community Engagement Department. They also work as a recording artist with Velattimme, a hip-hop music group they originated with their brothers.
